Jennifer and Simon – Umberslade Woods

Thirteen years ago, Jennifer was at Birmingham’s premier student hotspot – ‘Snobs’ nightclub.  And as she scanned the dance-floor, her eyes fixed on a man illuminated by the spotlight. She remembered his flowing locks, the leather jacket he was wearing and his white winkle-picker shoes! She didn’t even know his name, but it didn’t matter. She turned to her friend there and then and said “I’m going to marry that man!” And clearly she’s a woman of her word!

It’s one year to the day since I had the pleasure of marrying this pair of utter dreamboats! And since then, Jenn and Simon have acted as my unofficial agents – selling up my services to pretty much anyone who will listen (I suspect regardless of whether or not they’re actually planning a wedding!!) But when Jenn messaged me to tell me that she was pregnant, I thought I might explode with excitement! Imagine – a tiny little 70’s styled mini Laventine-Lee!! And as if that’s not enough – they’ve asked me to do the naming ceremony! It’s too much. I’m off for a cuppa and a good sit down to collect myself.

“Well… It’s coming up to our one year anniversary and our resounding and lasting memory from our beautiful day was Laura. She made the whole thing so very special for us – and although we knew that the service she had so painstakingly crafted was amazing, we were reassured a million times over by nearly every one of our guests commenting on how unusual, unique, personal, touching and beautiful the service was. In fact, most of them said it was “the most beautiful wedding ceremony they’d ever been to”! It made us feel so proud of our day – and this was in no small part down to Laura.

Choosing a celebrant was probably one of the most nerve-wracking things about planning our humanist / non-religious wedding and we lived in fear of never finding one that we gelled with. We didn’t want your average suited-and-booted registrar vibe, but we also didn’t want to go too far the other way either. We met Laura at an Umberslade Adventure Park open day purely by chance and my fiancé and I both agreed instantly that she was THE ONE for us (when you know, you know! I think it’s like buying a house!). Her warmth and personality made us feel like we had known her for a lifetime and it meant the world to us to work with someone who we genuinely got on with. My only worry was that she wouldn’t be available on our date – but I think we would have probably tried to work around her commitments!

Our outdoor woodland wedding was blighted by torrential rain (during the hottest Summer since 1976!) and Laura was military in her organisation of an alternative ceremony spot inside our tipis the day before. We were heartbroken about the rain – but in reality the more intimate setting inside the tipi closer to our friends and family made it all the more romantic and special. We are eternally grateful to Laura for taking control of that, reassuring us (over and over!!!) that all would be well – and stopping us from stressing and panicking!

All of the interactions, emails, meetings and discussions were a pleasure and never a chore for her or us. She made the whole process so enjoyable and stress-free and one of our favourite memories is meeting her in the park on a beautiful spring day to tell her our love story. It was really a lovely afternoon and it reminded us, in telling her, how much we loved one another and the reasons why.

We have stayed in touch with Laura and I have recommended her to two friends who booked her – and were both over the moon. We have also booked her for our baby-naming ceremony and can’t wait to work with her again. I can’t recommend Laura enough. She has a magic touch which is impossible to describe. Thank you Laura for everything you did to make our day AMAZING. We love you!!!”
